Javanese
The Javanese cat is a relative to the Siamese breed and is most noted for being intelligent and talkative. They are also similar in coat style to the Balinese but they do not fall into the same point colors as the Balinese cat. As they are directly related to both the Siamese and the Balinese they can suffer from a number of the same genetic defects.
History
· The Javanese is a breed is a Siamese style cat, similar to the Balinese, Colorpoint Shorthair, Oriental Shorthair, and the Oriental Longhair. Breeders were inspired to create a type of cat with qualities of the Siamese but with altered coats and colors to their own liking. These particular breeds hare many similar conformations and personality types. The difference is seen mainly in the coat length, colors, patterns, and the cat association.
Javanese cats have long fur as opposed to Siamese.
· The Javanese is mostly a combination of the refinement of the Siamese, the silky coat of the Balinese, and the crazy mixed up colors of the Colorpoint Shorthair.
· There are records of a longhaired cat of pure Siamese ancestry found in the registry of the Cat Fanciers Federation as early as 1928, but there was no serious effort to promote the variation.
· In the early 1940s Siamese breeders around the world began using domestic and a number of other breeds to introduce Red, Cream, Tortie, and Lynx Point colors and patterns to the gene pool. These are accepted as full Siamese by a majority of the registries around the world.
· In 1950 two longhaired kittens were born into a litter of registered Siamese owned by Marion Dorsey. She then decided to breed the two together and to her surprise they bred true for the long coat and thus the Javanese was formally started.
· In 1956 a woman named Sylvia Holland from California became interested in the work Marion Dorsey was doing. Helen Smith of New York also became interested soon after, as well as many other interested breeders.
· Javanese are judged as a division of the Balinese, according to the Siamese standard with emphasis placed on the longer hair. The coat is the most unique feature of the Javanese.
Personality
Javanese cats are as playful as their Balinese relatives. They are also devoted to their owners and very talkative. If you are looking for an interactive cat that will follow you around everywhere then the Javanese will be a perfect match. Most cat fanciers claim that Javanese are easy to train and are less demanding than their relative the Siamese.
