Methods of Litter Box Training
Humans have been obsessed with cats for centuries. We love these furry little guys. We also love the furry big ones too! Do you remember the first time you saw a lion? You probably thought it was regal, mysterious, and secretive. Cats manage to be so many different things at once. They are truly wonderful creatures. Cats are also less needy than dogs. They are quite independent and intelligent, but they also love attention and are dedicated to their owners. Despite this independence, cats do have certain needs and require some help with a few things. They obvioulsy rely on us for food, shelter, water, and some sort of love. However, they also require some sort of litter box training. Unless you are ok with your cat using your potted plants or floor as their own personal bathroom, you might want to consider training your cat to use the litter box. But this is not as easy as it might sound. Many people know that cats often have accidents and that getting them to consistently use the litter box is quite difficult. Why is this?
Most cats are extremely clean creatures. They will only go to the bathroom in areas that are both clean and quiet. They hate loud areas where there is allot of traffic. One of the bigest reasons your cat is not using the appropriate spot is that the spot you have chosen might not be to the cat's liking. You will need a spot far away from its food and water. You will also need to regularly change the litter box so that the cat doesn't start to think that it is dirty.
There are a couple methods for litter box training a cat. The most common one is to isolate the cat in a particular quiet area of the house. This doesn't mean that you should forget about the cat. Make sure to give it attention and love during the time that it is learning to use the litter box. It is best to select a spot with a non-porous floor, like a garage or bathroom. After the cat has eaten, take them to the litter box and run their paw through the kitty litter. Stay with them until they have used the box appropriately. When they do so, make sure to praise them and give them some sort of treat. Cats do not learn well from punishment. Punishing an animal will only make it afraid of you--it will not teach the animal any kind of behavior.
This is the most popular method for litter box training a cat. Another method is to actually place the kitten in the box at times when you think they will be ready to use the bathroom. This is usually when they wake up in the morning and just after they have eaten. If the cat jumps right back out again that is ok. Just keep putting the cat in the box when you think it will need to go. Hopefully it will start to learn what this means and will repeat by itself.
There are many different methods for training a cat to use a litter box, but most of them are just variations on the same theme. You need a clean, hospitable environment and you need to do things to encourage the cat to come to the litter box and figure out what it is for. You also need to keep the box clean. Basically any variation on these ideas should work, assuming you don't allow the cat to go in other places.
