Tips for Buying the Right Litter Box
There are many important things to remember when it comes time to purchase a new kitty litter box, or a replacement kitty litter box. This article will discuss a few things every cat owner should know when they are looking to purchasing a litter box.
The Preferred Kitty Litter Box
Cats tend to have their preferences when it comes to their kitty litter boxes. One way for a cat owner to find out their cat's preference is to purchase a basic type of kitty litter box as well as a hooded kitty litter box. The cat owner should allow their cat to use whichever kitty litter box it chooses. If the cat seems to like both then the cat owner can leave both of the kitty litter boxes available for the cat to use. If the cat only seems to use the one without the hood then the cat owner should remove the hood of the other one to allow the cat to use both. The same should be done if the cat tends to only use the kitty litter box with the hood. The owner should put a hood on the kitty litter box without the hood.
Space for the Kitty
The litter box that a cat owner chooses needs to be big enough for their cat to maneuver around comfortably when in the kitty litter box. There are some commercial kitty litter boxes available that may be too low for a cat or even too small.
Some cats prefer to urinate on the side of the litter box once they are inside and if the littler box is too small this may not work. When this is the case, a cat owner may want to consider getting a plastic storage container for their cat to use as a kitty litter box. There are clear storage containers which work well as kitty litter boxes because they have high sides and are big enough for most cats.
Usually cats like to use these plastic storage containers as their kitty litter box as well. Since many cats tend to feel vulnerable when they are eliminating, if their kitty litter box has clear sides they may feel more comfortable since they would be able to see any type of threat that might be near. If the cat has trouble getting in and out of the plastic storage bin, the cat owner can easily cut out an opening using a sharp knife.
Remember the Waste
When a cat owner is purchasing a kitty litter box, they should remember that they also need to get a receptacle for the waste. A small trash can with a sealable lid would be a great idea for the person to put the kitty waste. There are even some models available which have a foot pedal making it easier for the person to use when scooping the kitty litter. The trash can should be lined with a plastic bag and needs to be replaced often to help control the odor.
Things to Remember
It is very important for a cat owner to remember not to change their cat's kitty litter box suddenly. A cat owner should get a new kitty litter box while the original one still has a little wear left in it. The cat owner should put out the new kitty litter box and allow the cat to slowly make the transition into using the new kitty litter box from the old box.
If the kitty litter box of choice is a hooded model, the cat owner should never store a kitty litter rake or anything else on the top of the hood. Items that are stored on the top of the hood could fall off and scare the cat which could stop the cat from using the kitty litter box.
